Dateline Imports Ltd (DIL) was started on Auckland's North Shore in 1993 by husband and wife team Robin and Marie Bennett. Following fifteen years in Australia including eight years as a wholesaler supplying Sydney Hairdressers, New Zealander Robin was understandably a little homesick and felt it was time to move back to Auckland. At that time DIL in Australia were looking to expand across the Tasman and offered Robin and Marie the opportunity to set up DIL in New Zealand as partners.
In May of 1993 DIL opened its doors for the first time in Constellation Drive with the arrival of three shipping containers and just Robin and Marie to unload, set up a warehouse and start distributing to up to twenty wholesalers around New Zealand. Six months later the team had doubled to include another in the office and a warehouse manager.
Following a decline in the number of wholesalers in New Zealand Robin and Marie made the significant decision to start distributing directly to salons, and employed their first Sales Rep in Auckland in 1996. Two years later following steady growth in staff and sales DIL moved to its previous location in William Pickering Drive effectively doubling the size of its warehouse. Now just six years later DIL have moved on to even larger premises nearby to cope with the expected growth of the next ten years.
DIL currently employs 27 permanent staff made up of:
- Eight Sales Representatives through out New Zealand
- Two Educators around New Zealand Six Warehouse team members in Albany
- Six Management and Support team members and a Marketing team member in Albany
- Two sales staff in Christchurch
DIL currently have over 2500 customers made up of individual salons, pharmacies and Department stores in New Zealand and the Pacific Islands and stock 4540 different stock items.
